Somatic Practice For Stress Release
Somatic Stress Relief
Stress shows up in our lives and our bodies in countless ways. It’s the tightness in your shoulders that doesn’t go away, the knot in your belly, the looping of your thoughts, and the feeling of being on edge all the time. Stress affects us on every level, keeping us on high alert and coloring our thoughts, motivations, and perceptions.
A Body-First Approach to Stress Relief
Because stress is an inevitable part of life, how we approach, understand, and manage it can make an immense difference in our overall well-being, health, and happiness.
Unfortunately, most advice on how to release stress focuses on superficial relaxation techniques or cognitive and behavioral solutions, like positive thinking, taking a day off, or better time management strategies. While these methods can offer some relief, they often only skim the surface.
At best, they provide temporary respite; at worst, they add more tasks to our already overflowing to-do lists, leaving us feeling guilty when we can’t seem to release our stress.
True, lasting stress relief requires us to address the roots of stress embedded in our nervous systems and held in our bodies.
By taking a body-first approach, we can support our nervous systems to come out of the cycle of stress they’re stuck in. We can listen to our bodies, understand our stressors on a deeper level, and release stress at its source.
SOMATIC Healing HAPPENS on Two Levels: Autonomic and Autobiographical
I often say there are two levels of healing we need to address in somatic healing: autonomic and autobiographical. Autonomic refers to the need to shift and heal our nervous system state, while autobiographical refers to the unique feelings, experiences, narratives, and emotions we each need to tend to for true and lasting healing.
This somatic practice for stress release works on both of these levels.
We’ll begin with Self-Havening to help our nervous systems release stress and come into a state of greater balance, and then we’ll use Regenerating Images in Memory® to gain more clarity on our stressors and feelings, enabling us to develop an embodied awareness of how to support ourselves in releasing stress in the long term.
Moving from Managing Stress to Releasing It
It’s time to shift from managing stress to releasing it with this gentle and effective somatic practice.
You’ll leave this somatic practice feeling more grounded, centered, and equipped with powerful tools to navigate stress with greater ease and resilience. This body-first approach also fosters a compassionate relationship with yourself, inviting you to listen, understand, and respond to your body’s needs.
Join me on this journey of deep healing, where we move beyond surface-level solutions and dive into the profound work of releasing stress from the inside out. Together, we can cultivate a life of greater ease, balance, and well-being.
